‘Lord Jesus, I am so ashamed, why did I do it, why did I stoop so low?’
‘I will never forgive myself for doing this. How could I? What was I thinking? I am so stupid!’
‘They will never like me, they are always judging me.’
‘I am a failure.’
‘Wonder what so and so thinks about me.’
Those were my thoughts for a long time.
Turns out I am not the only one who has dealt (still deals) with toxic thinking. These and many more thoughts cross our minds, we believe the lies and find ourselves sinking into depression. We become insecure, start living in guilt and shame.
Then, we end up making more mistakes and the guilt trip continues only that it keeps getting worse.
Life on earth has a way of weighing us down. We go through a lot and this weight we carry if not dealt with causes us to lose track.
Fears, insecurity, lack of confidence, discouragement and deep thoughts cause us to walk with our heads hanging down.
These things make us miss the good plans God has for us.
But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
Psalm 3:3 NIV
In this verse lies a great revelation, one that we can stand on when feelings of shame, discouragement, fear, and insecurity start weighing us down. Jesus has paid it all on the cross, He is our glory. Therefore, we have to stand firm in our freedom and allow him to work in our hearts and lift our heads.
Easier said than done
But, this is easy to say than it is to actually do it.
See, when you are accustomed to living your life a certain way, it becomes ingrained in you to just live that way even when the other side looks great.
Yes, despite knowing it’s all by God’s grace.
I for one find it easy to sit there, meditate on my problems and complain than to open the bible to find a promise over my situation and meditate on it until it becomes my reality.
All about Choice
It takes effort from our side to become confident, bold and secure.
You’ve to decide in your heart that the word of God is your absolute truth. That you are going to read the word of God instead of listening to the voices in your head or the negativity in the world. You are going to create time for prayer and fasting. You’re going to walk out of all bad relationships. And that you are going to look for a church among other things.
Getting saved is just the start of a new journey. It is not the thing you do then boom! All the voices, lies and insecurities disappear.
The devil is determined to bring you down. Just because you are saved doesn’t mean he won’t bug you. He didn’t stop you from getting saved but he will try to stop you from accomplishing your purpose.
By reminding you of your past mistakes, bringing fear and doubt in your heart.
Don’t let the devil lie to you.
You are forgiven, you’ve been set free! Jesus is lifting your head high. Believe in the word and stand firm in your freedom.
Don’t let your guard down. Be strong. Speak forth the truth, not your feelings.
