A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:39(NLT)
To some people, self-love means pride or something along those lines.
But I love the fact that the word of God says that you ought to love your neighbor as yourself.
This verse got me thinking a lot one day when a friend brought it to my attention.
The degree to which we love others is tied to how much we love ourselves. At least that is what I picked up from the verse. Being a big advocate of self-love, I love this verse. Loving yourself does not mean that you will end up being prideful or self-centered if anything it makes you value yourself and others.
The best way to love yourself is to know how much God loves you.
Yes, when you understand why you are here and why you matter to the creator you will be able to see how valuable you are and this will transform you into the person that you are supposed to be.
You were created out of love, it does not matter how you came into this world but what matters is that God wants you here in this season. To him, you are not a mistake. Now, you’ve probably heard this a couple of times, but it is not enough to just hear and know, it is important that you believe this from your heart.
No matter how long it takes, you need to practice God’s love, this will enable you to appreciate and love yourself and transform you into a better person.
Spend some time meditating on verses to do with love, how God gave his one and only son to die for you. Feed on such verses until they come alive in your heart.
Now, let’s talk about the ways in which self-love will change you as a person.
Take Good Care of Yourself
When you know your worth and that you are not a mistake you will be able to take care of yourself well.
You will also respect the fact that your body is the temple of God and as a result, you’ll take good care of it.
But how can you do that when you don’t love yourself?
When you understand there is more to you than just your looks and God gave you that body for a clear purpose, you will be able to look beyond what you see in the mirror.
You will also be careful about what you let in your mind because your mental well being will become important. You will not entertain any negativity and things that contradict the word of God.
Self Love Will Help You to Respect Yourself.
People who truly love themselves know when to say no, not because they are being mean but because they love themselves to the point that they know what they can handle and what is beyond them.
You will not be running around trying to please everybody because you will be busy pleasing God.
Relate Better with Others
The truth is when you love yourself you will see the best in you and accept your flaws and this will make you secure in who you are. That in itself will cause you to see the best in other people and be more understanding when they make mistakes.
Since you will be full of love, you will be able to dish it to other people around you.
You will become more tolerant and patient with people and you’ll start looking forward to helping others to love themselves. You will stand up for others when you think they are not treated out and one of your goals will be to bring out the best in people.
What is amazing about all this is, you will not strive to do it, it will come naturally.
Self Love Will Make You to Be More Confident
Despite knowing your flaws you will be able to love yourself. You will hold your head up high and live as a kingdom child.
You will develop your own unique style and not be afraid of doing what you were created to do because second-guessing yourself will be a thing of the past.
